GiantSky launches website for AgriTrace, a leading developer of tracking and transaction systems for Kenya’s agricultural sector

GiantSky is proud to launch AgriTrace Kenya at www.agritracekenya.com .

Agritrace Kenya Limited is an ICT company, providing food traceability and Global positioning tracking solutions to promote food safety and livestock security.  As a service provider and systems intermediary, the company used the latest digital wireless `technologies to get to millions of farmers, processors, service providers, regulatory authorities, financial system and Billions of shillings in e-commerce.  Agritrace’s core mission is to build an agribusiness information management and payment system as a key component supplier to the agricultural economies of Africa and spurring effort to make technology a more useful factor in rural production activities.

GiantSky will be assisting the company in its development of eMarketplaces and industry portals, as well as advising on database development and marketing of the Agricultural transaction systems.

Agriculture remains the most important economic activity in Kenya, although less than 8% of the land is used for crop and feed production. Less than 20% of the land is suitable for cultivation, of which only 12% is classified as high potential (adequate rainfall) agricultural land and about 8% is medium potential land. The rest of the land is arid or semiarid. About 80% of the work force engages in agriculture or food processing. Farming in Kenya is typically carried out by small producers who usually cultivate no more than two hectares (about five acres) using limited technology. These small farms, operated by about three million farming families, account for 75% of total production. Although there are still important European-owned coffee, tea, and sisal plantations, an increasing number of peasant farmers grow cash crops.

Agriculture has, for many years, formed the backbone of Kenya’s economy: the agriculture sector contributes about 30 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and accounts for 80 per cent of national employment, mainly in the rural areas. In addition, the sector contributes more than 60 per cent of the total export earnings and about 45 per cent of government revenue, while providing for most of the country’s food requirements. The sector is estimated to have a further indirect contribution of nearly 27 per cent of GDP through linkages with manufacturing, distribution, and other service related sectors.

AgriTrace will be at the heart of developing systems to create much needed efficiencies from Farms to Homes, at all parts of the supply chain.  GiantSky will advise and support AgriTrace in its marketing and technology needs.

GiantSky Launches VerdoniImports.com - the website of a leading Italian and Argentine Wine Importer

We are simply thrilled to announce the launch of www.verdoniimports.com, the website for Verdoni Imports and HeyDay Corporation, a leading wine importer here in the US.  Verdoni Imports has one of the most extensive collections of Italian wines, and the website serves two main purposes:  to educate the public on Italian, Argentine and other wines, their regions and producers, and secondly, to provide distributors around the US with access to wine information.  The Verdoni Imports website also serves as a wonderful and informative presence for producers in Italy, Argentina and California, where the public can learn much about the art of making wines specific to regions and growers.

Verdoni Imports’ wine database is built on an extensive Content Management System that allows the client to manage the wines they offer as they grow.  Virtually every part of the Verdoni site is CMS driven, and that provides Verdoni with the flexibility to educate and inform their visitors.  The system allows streaming of video and audio content, and even perhaps a virtual wine tasting session someday!
